Trial begins against former official accused in fatal crash

Today in Gualeguay, the oral and public trial begins against Juan Ruiz Orrico, a former PRO official accused of crashing and killing four young people in the Entre Ríos city of Concepción del Uruguay. On June 20, 2024, Orrico was driving with 1.59 grams of alcohol in his system on kilometer 223 of Route 39 when he collided with the Chevrolet Corsa carrying Leonardo Almada, Axel Rossi, Brian, and Axel Izaguirre. According to the mother of one of the victims, reported by the Noticias Argentinas agency, the trial will begin at 9 a.m. and consist of eight hearings, during which the former mayoral candidate's responsibility for the crime of aggravated negligent homicide will be judged. The accused offered through his lawyers a financial reparations of 150 million pesos to the families to address the 'moral damage' caused by the fatal accident. Lorena Dubini rejected the proposal, calling it 'a lack of respect' and demanding justice for the deceased. The victims, all fathers, were on their way to work at the Fadel slaughterhouse in Pronunciamiento when they were hit by the Volkswagen Passat driven by the former head of the Entre Ríos Port Institute.
